Did Someone Say Plot Twist?

Just when you think you know what is going to happen, another character comes in with their hair on fire and throws themselves down, igniting the gunpowder way too early. What happens next? The scramble. Realizing the ending you already wrote is now in need of fixing or this twist can’t happen is exhilarating and annoying. My muse is fussing about the ending having been so, so good but now it must be rewritten. Yes, I refer to the creative part of my brain, my imagination, as my muse because when it comes up with something crazy, I can blame her and not look so crazy myself. Well, it sounds good in theory. I may be able to tweak the ending a bit and still fit in with this new twist. If it doesn’t enhance it, I will cut it.

While a plot twist is the “fun” shift in Echoes on the Lake, I have been reviewing my notes for Thunder of Lies and found that I can break them down a bit and have 3 completely different stories. Same world. Different characters. I know that Thunder of Lies will be a trilogy (Savage Bloodlust and Cairn of Austerity are books 2 and 3). The underlying theme is survival with anger, betrayal, loyalty, and sacrifice as supporting themes throughout the series. However, if I break away this one set of characters, the notes have a paranormal romance feel in parts of them but is clearly not the meat of my notes. I will have to dig a little deeper as I continue to review my notes ( a good practice that keeps my story from having holes) and see where these characters will fit in the main plotline.
